Strength and power training programs that focus on exercises performed bilaterally and in the vertical direction have mostly failed to improve change of direction performance. On the contrary training protocols that have utilized exercises that mimic change of direction, the ability to generate force in the horizontal direction, have had positive results on change of direction performance.
