Power tests (squat and countermovement jump) are correlated with the three speed measures; quickness, acceleration and maximal speed in sprint running. Measures of 3 RM (Repetition Max) and isokinetic testing (different velocities) of knee flexion and extension were not found to be correlated with the three speed measures. This is not surprising considering the principle of specificity is lacking with isokinetic testing. Furthermore, 3RM testing is also lacking specificity in terms direction of force generation. Testing of global multi-joint movement at higher speeds with forces generated in the horizontal direction might be better suited for the testing of strength and power related to sprint performance.
